Christmas 2017 is a great time for vegans, as shops are finally realising how big the market is and supplying products for the demand.
Last week we were pretty giddy at the thought of the vegan pizza that launched at Pizza Hut, and today we’re jumping up and down on hearing the news that Asda is selling a pack of vegan mince pies.
Asda has made the move ahead of any other supermarket and it is hoping to sell 18 million pies to happy vegans over the festive period.
Ciara Loker, Bakery Product Developer at Asda, said: “This festive season, Asda is proud to announce we now offer mince pies that are suitable for vegans and have been accredited by the Vegan Society.
“At Asda, we are committed to innovation and developing the best quality products that can be enjoyed by everyone.”
Asda’s vegan-friendly mince pies clock in at 8.6g of fat per mince pie, which, according to this handy infographic which ranks 40 supermarket foods in order of fat, sugar and calories, is only 0.1g off Sainsbury’s mince pie, the reigning healthy festive option at only 8.5g fat per pie.
[Ed’s note: Asda’s original mince pie clocks in at 11g of fat—2.4g more than their vegan alternative.]
And they’re not the only Christmas treats on offer for vegans at Asda this year. You can also tuck into their truffles, Belgian chocolate cranberry and orange tiffins (yum) as well as chocolate selection boxes.
